Lara Beach is one of Antalya’s most famous stretches of coastline — a long, golden-sand beach backed by some of Turkey’s most impressive resort hotels. Here’s everything you need to know before you visit.
Is Lara Beach a Blue Flag Beach?
Yes. Lara Beach holds Blue Flag certification, meaning it meets strict international standards for water quality, cleanliness, safety facilities, and environmental management. The water is crystal clear, consistently clean, and tested regularly. This Blue Flag status makes it particularly popular with families and those who prioritise safe swimming conditions.
What Is Lara Beach Like?
Lara Beach is characterised by fine golden sand (unusual for Antalya, where pebble beaches are more common — [Konyaaltı Beach](INTERNAL LINK: /konyaalti-beach) is pebble, for comparison). The water warms and deepens gradually, making it one of the safest beaches in Antalya for children. Water temperatures are also slightly warmer than on the western side of the city.
The public section of the beach is free to access — no entry fee. Facilities include showers, changing rooms, and toilets. Sunbeds and umbrellas can be rented from the commercial operators along the beach. There are also beach clubs, cafés, restaurants, a go-kart track, and a public barbecue area along the seafront promenade.
Just east of the beach, Sandland Antalya — an internationally acclaimed sand sculpture park — operates year-round and is one of the area’s most unusual attractions.
Can You Walk Along Lara Beach?
Yes — Lara Beach has a long beach promenade running along its length, and walking it is genuinely enjoyable. The beach stretches for several kilometres from the Düden Waterfall (which dramatically pours directly into the sea from a 40-metre cliff at the western end) eastward through successive resort zones.
You won’t walk the entire length in one session — it’s a long beach — but the stretch between the public municipal beach section and the hotel zone is pleasant and has plenty to stop at along the way.
How Far Is Konyaaltı Beach from Lara Beach?
The two beaches are on opposite sides of Antalya city centre. Konyaaltı is on the western side; Lara is on the eastern side. By road, the distance is approximately 20–25 km, and a direct trip between them takes roughly 40–50 minutes by bus, or 20–30 minutes by taxi or car. You can’t walk between the two beaches — the city centre and clifftops sit between them.
How to Get to Lara Beach from Antalya Old Town
From Kaleiçi (the Old Town), take bus KL08 from the Atatürk Caddesi stop. The journey takes approximately 35–45 minutes depending on traffic. Get off at the “Lara Plaj” stop and the beach is right in front of you. Alternatively, taxis are quick and fares are reasonable with a meter.
