Tünektepe Cable Car is currently closed. Here’s what happened, what the current situation is, and what to do instead.
What Happened at Tünektepe?
On 12 April 2024, a cabin on the Tünektepe Teleferik struck a support pylon during operation. The incident resulted in one fatality and several injuries. A rescue operation involving helicopters with night vision equipment ran for nearly 23 hours to evacuate 174 passengers stranded on the line.
Following the accident, the cable car was shut down immediately. An investigation was launched, with preliminary findings pointing to structural issues with the support pylons.
Is Tünektepe Reopening?
As of 2026, there is no confirmed reopening date. The facility remains closed. If you are planning a trip to Antalya and hoping to ride Tünektepe, do not count on it being available.
What Should I Do Instead?
The best alternative in the Antalya region is the Olympos Cable Car near Kemer — see our full guide: Is the Antalya Cable Car Worth It?
Olympos reaches 2,365 metres — far higher than Tünektepe’s 618 metres — and delivers 360-degree mountain and sea views that many consider even more impressive. It operates as a half-day tour from Antalya with hotel pickup included.
