Antalya Airport to Kalkan Transfer: All Options Compared

Kalkan is the darling of British travellers on the Turkish Mediterranean, all whitewashed villas, rooftop restaurants and that impossibly blue harbour. But getting there requires a little planning, because Kalkan sits about 220 km from Antalya Airport (AYT), a drive of roughly 3.5 to 4 hours along the coastal D400. I live in Antalya and I will give it to you straight, including one question most guides skip: should you even fly into Antalya, or is Dalaman better for Kalkan? Let’s break it all down.

Honest local answer: if you have a choice of flights, Dalaman (DLM) is closer to Kalkan, around 110 to 120 km and about 1.5 to 2 hours by road. Antalya is roughly 220 km and 3.5 to 4 hours. So why does this article exist? Because Antalya has far more direct flights from the UK and Europe, often at much better prices, and the AYT route is a genuinely beautiful coastal drive past Kemer, Olympos and Kaş. Many travellers find the cheaper flight into Antalya worth the longer transfer. If flight times and prices are similar though, pick Dalaman.

For a 220 km route, a pre-booked private transfer is the option I recommend to friends. Your driver meets you at arrivals with a name sign, tracks your flight if it is delayed, and drives you door to door to your villa or hotel in Kalkan. One local tip that matters here: Kalkan’s old town streets are steep and narrow, and villa names repeat across neighbourhoods, so a driver who confirms your exact accommodation in advance saves real headaches.

There is no direct bus from the airport. First get to Antalya otogar (main bus station) by tram or taxi, then take a Batı Antalya Tur coach along the coast toward Fethiye, which stops at Kalkan. The bus leg alone takes around 4.5 hours, and with the airport to otogar leg plus waiting you are realistically looking at 6 to 7.5 hours total. Tickets are cheap, usually around €10 to €15. Fine for budget solo travellers, tough after a long flight with luggage or kids.

Available at arrivals, but for this distance expect a high fare, often in the region of €160 to €260 depending on season and negotiation, and long-route pricing at the rank is not always transparent. If you want a private car, pre-booking online with a written fixed price is simply the smarter version of the same thing.

Genuinely worth considering for Kalkan, because the surrounding area rewards exploring: Kaputaş Beach is 10 minutes away, Patara’s 18 km sand beach is 20 minutes, Kaş is half an hour, and Saklıkent Gorge under an hour. The D400 is a good road. Two warnings from experience: parking inside Kalkan old town is very limited in summer, and some villa access streets are extremely steep and tight, so check where your accommodation’s parking actually is before you commit.
