Alanya Tropical Fruit Festival 2026: Dates, Location & Visitor Guide

Avocados growing on a tree branch, one of the main tropical crops grown around Alanya

Quick answer

Alanya Municipality’s official 2026 events calendar lists the 5th Alanya Tropical Fruit Festival for 9–11 October 2026 (Friday to Sunday). The municipality’s events page lists it next to the old Alanya municipality building (Eski Alanya Belediye Binası) in the town centre, from around 10:00 each day. The detailed stage programme had not been published when we checked on 30 September 2026.

Most visitors know Alanya for its castle and beaches. Fewer realise that the greenhouses and terraces between Alanya and Gazipaşa grow bananas, avocados, mangoes, dragon fruit and passion fruit. The Tropical Fruit Festival is the municipality’s showcase for that produce, and it is aimed as much at local growers and residents as at tourists. This guide covers what the festival involves, what is confirmed for 2026, and how to plan a trip to Alanya around it.

Municipal festivals in Turkey often confirm the venue and stage programme only a week or two ahead, usually on the municipality’s website and social media accounts. If you are travelling specifically for the festival, check alanya.bel.tr a few days before you go, and keep the trip flexible enough that a venue change doesn’t matter.

What Happens at the Festival

Going by the municipality’s reports on previous editions, the festival is a mix of food, farming and entertainment rather than a big market fair:

  • Chef demonstrations. In 2025 guest chefs cooked with local tropical fruit on stage, including a MasterChef Turkey name. Demonstrations are in Turkish, but you don’t need the language to follow a cooking show.
  • Grower competitions. The heaviest-avocado contest has become a tradition; the 2025 winner was a 633-gram Fuerte avocado. Earlier editions also ran heaviest-mango and best tropical-garden categories.
  • Talks and panels. Sessions on growing, nutrition and the local farming economy, including a 2025 panel with women producers. These are for a Turkish-speaking audience.
  • Evening concerts. Earlier editions closed each day with performances by Turkish artists.

For a visitor, the realistic draw is an afternoon of browsing, tasting and watching, then an evening concert, combined with a day in Alanya itself. It is not a multi-day destination on its own.

Which Tropical Fruits Grow Around Alanya?

Antalya’s coastal districts, mainly Alanya, Gazipaşa, Manavgat and Serik, grow around 40 tropical and subtropical fruit varieties. Bananas and avocados are by far the biggest crops, and the region supplies roughly half of Turkey’s bananas. Mango, papaya, pineapple, kumquat, dragon fruit and passion fruit are grown in smaller volumes, much of it under cover.

October is a good time to find local avocados, and Alanya’s short, sweet bananas are on sale all year. If you are thinking of taking fruit home, check your home country’s rules first: the UK and EU restrict most fresh fruit and plants carried in personal luggage from outside the EU, with only a few exceptions. Eating it here, or buying sealed jams and dried fruit, avoids the question.

How to Get There

The festival has been held in central Alanya, so the question is really how to get to Alanya town and back. Approximate road times, outside rush hour:

Starting fromRough drive timeNotes
Antalya city or LaraAbout 2 hoursLong for an evening concert; consider staying overnight
Side or ManavgatAbout 1 hourComfortable as an afternoon-and-evening trip
Gazipaşa-Alanya Airport (GZP)About 40 minutesThe closest airport to Alanya
Alanya hotels (Mahmutlar, Oba, Konaklı)10–30 minutesLocal dolmuş minibuses run along the coast road

Intercity buses run between Antalya’s main bus station (otogar) and Alanya throughout the day, but the last useful departures back can be earlier than an evening concert ends. From Side or Antalya, a private car with a driver who waits and brings you back after the concert is the simplest option. Our Alanya day trip guide covers the bus and driving options in detail, and the Antalya Airport to Alanya transfer guide helps if you are arriving that weekend. Making a Day of It in Alanya

Mid-October is still warm enough for the sea on most days, so the festival fits well with a beach morning at Kleopatra Beach or a walk up to Alanya Castle before an afternoon at the festival. See our things to do in Alanya guide for the castle, the Red Tower and the harbour. If you are staying further east, the beaches and sea caves covered in our Gazipaşa guide are on the same side of Alanya. For the general weather picture that week, read Antalya in October.

📝 A Local’s Note

October weekends in Alanya are busy with local visitors as well as tourists, and the coast road into town slows down in the late afternoon. If you only have one evening, aim to arrive by mid-afternoon rather than planning to drive in at sunset.

If you want to taste more than one kind of avocado or banana, the fruit and vegetable stalls at Alanya’s weekly markets are also worth a look that weekend.
