Private Boat Rental in Antalya: Yacht Charter Guide

Shared boat tours are great fun, but they come with a fixed route, a fixed schedule and a hundred other people’s music taste. A private boat rental flips all of that: your group, your route, your pace, your playlist. And here is the part that surprises most visitors: split between a family or a group of friends, a private yacht in Antalya often costs less per person than people expect, especially outside peak season. As a local, this is my honest guide to doing it right.

A typical private charter in Antalya comes with the boat, a captain and crew (you do not need any sailing experience or licence), fuel, and usually lunch and soft drinks. Better packages include swimming and snorkelling gear. What it really buys you is control: you decide when to leave, which bays to anchor in, how long to swim, when to eat. Want to skip the crowded stop every shared tour makes? Skip it. Want an extra hour in a quiet cove? Take it. That flexibility is the whole product.

In my experience, four groups get the most out of a private charter:

Families with young kids: no waiting for other passengers, no loud party deck, lunch when the kids are hungry, back early if needed.
Celebrations: birthdays, anniversaries, proposals. Some crews will happily help you set up a small surprise, ask when booking.
Groups of friends: 8 to 12 people splitting the cost is where private charters become genuinely good value against booking 12 shared-tour tickets.
Couples who value quiet: the most expensive per person, but a full day at sea with only the two of you and the crew is a different holiday memory altogether.

Full day (usually 6 to 8 hours) is the standard and what I recommend for a first time: enough hours to reach the prettier bays west of the city, swim properly at 3 or 4 stops and still have a lazy lunch at anchor. Half-day and sunset charters exist and suit celebrations or travellers short on time, but you will spend proportionally more of it cruising rather than swimming. If your budget forces a choice between a full day on a simpler boat and a half day on a fancier one, take the full day on the simpler boat, the sea is the star anyway.

Confirm the maximum guest count in writing, boats are licensed for specific numbers. Check whether food and drinks are included or extra, this is the most common surprise. If anyone in your group gets seasick, ask for a morning departure, the sea is calmest before noon and the afternoon breeze can add chop. Bring cash for crew tips if you are happy with the service, around 5 to 10 percent is a kind gesture, not an obligation. And book with free cancellation: charters get cancelled on windy days for safety, and you want that flexibility on your side.

The maths is simple. Travelling as 1 or 2 people on a budget? A shared tour gives you the same sea for far less money. Travelling as 6 or more, or celebrating something, or allergic to foam parties?
