There are many ways to end a day in Antalya, but none of them beats being on the water when the sun drops behind the Taurus Mountains and the cliffs of the old town turn gold. I live here, and even for locals a sunset cruise never gets old: the sea calms down in the evening, the heat breaks, and the city looks its absolute best from the water. Here is everything you need to know about sunset cruises in Antalya, including the honest parts most tour descriptions leave out.

Two main departure points, and they offer quite different experiences:

Kaleiçi Old Harbour: the classic. You sail out of the tiny Roman-era marina beneath the old town walls, past the cliffs and the sea-facing side of Kaleiçi. Shorter, more scenic and photogenic, ideal for couples.

Lara Pier: the party version. These evening tours typically run from around 17:00 to 21:30, cruise past the Lower Düden Waterfall (yes, the waterfall that drops straight into the sea, and seeing it from the water is genuinely special), include a swimming stop, dinner on board and usually music or a foam party on the way back. Hotel pickup is often included for Lara, Kundu and Belek hotels.

A typical sunset cruise lasts 2 to 4.5 hours depending on the format. The shorter Kaleiçi trips focus on the views: cliffs, city skyline, mountain silhouettes and that famous fire-coloured sky. The longer Lara departures are more of an evening out: swim break while there is still light, dinner as the sun sets, entertainment afterwards. Neither is better, they are just different moods, so pick based on whether you want romance or fun.

A few things I always tell visiting friends. First, bring a light jacket or scarf in any month except July and August, the sea breeze after sunset is cooler than you expect. Second, check what is included: some tours cover dinner and soft drinks, others charge extra for everything beyond the cruise itself. Third, sunset time matters: in mid-summer the sun sets around 8:20 pm, in October closer to 6:30 pm, and good operators shift departure times accordingly, so do not panic if the listed start time changes with the season. Finally, windy days can cancel tours, this is normal and the operator will rebook or refund you, one more reason to book online with free cancellation rather than paying cash at the dock.

Water is warmer and swim stops longer during the day, but nothing during the day matches that golden-hour light on the cliffs.
