Tahtalı vs Tünektepe: Which Antalya Cable Car to Choose 2026

Tahtalı vs Tünektepe: Which Antalya Cable Car to Choose 2026

🔵 INTRO (değiştir)

Antalya has historically had two cable cars, and visitors still compare them, so let’s clear up the current situation first. The Tünektepe cable car in the city has been closed since a serious accident in April 2024 and is not operating in 2026, with its future uncertain. That leaves Tahtalı (the Olympos Teleferik) near Kemer as Antalya’s working cable car, and it happens to be the more spectacular of the two. Here is an honest local’s guide to the status of both, and where to go for the views instead.

⚠️ Please note (2026): The Tünektepe cable car in Antalya has been closed since the April 2024 accident and is not currently operating. If you want a cable car experience, Tahtalı (Olympos Teleferik) near Kemer is the one that is open.

🔵 TAHTALI: THE ONE THAT’S OPEN

Tahtalı (the Olympos Teleferik) is the headline act and, importantly, it is open and running. The cable car climbs to around 2,365 metres, and the views over the coast, sea, and surrounding peaks are spectacular. It is a proper mountain, so the summit is much cooler and often windy even in summer, and it is a launch point for tandem paragliding. It sits near Kemer, roughly 50 km from Antalya, so plan it as a half-day by car or on an organised tour with transfer.

🔵 TÜNEKTEPE: CURRENTLY CLOSED

Tünektepe used to be the local favourite for a quick, affordable city outing, a short cable car up a roughly 600-metre hill above Konyaaltı with a terrace and restaurant looking over the bay. Sadly, following a serious accident in April 2024 the cable car has been closed, and as of 2026 it is not operating, with reports that the line may be dismantled and its future undecided. For now, you cannot ride it, so do not build a visit around it. We will update this guide if it reopens.

🔵 WHERE TO GO INSTEAD FOR A CITY SUNSET

If you were hoping for that Tünektepe hilltop view over Antalya, you still have lovely options in the city: the Kaleiçi clifftops around Hıdırlık Tower and Karaalıoğlu Park, the rooftop terraces of old-town bars, and Konyaaltı Beach itself all face west for beautiful sunsets. See our full guide below.

🔵 SO, WHICH SHOULD YOU CHOOSE?

For now the choice is simple: Tahtalı is the cable car to ride, and it offers the bigger, more dramatic experience anyway, a genuine high-mountain summit with huge panoramic views and the option to paraglide. Tünektepe is not currently available. Just check the weather before Tahtalı, since low cloud can hide the view at the top.

🔵 FAQ INTRO

Quick answers on Antalya’s two cable cars.

Is the Tünektepe cable car open?

No. Tünektepe has been closed since a serious accident in April 2024 and is not operating in 2026, with its future uncertain. Tahtalı (Olympos Teleferik) near Kemer remains open.

Is Tahtalı or Tünektepe better?

Tahtalı is both the more spectacular option and, crucially, the one currently operating. It reaches a dramatic 2,365-metre summit with panoramic views and paragliding, while Tünektepe is closed.

How high is the Tahtalı cable car?

The summit sits at around 2,365 metres. It is noticeably cooler and often windy at the top, so bring a layer even in summer.

Where can I watch the sunset in Antalya city now?

With Tünektepe closed, the Kaleiçi clifftops, old-town rooftop bars, and Konyaaltı Beach are the best west-facing city sunset spots.
