Best areas to stay in Antalya – Kaleiçi, Konyaaltı, Lara Beach and Belek compared

Nicest Part of Antalya — Best Areas to Stay Explained

Antalya is a large, spread-out city, and where you stay dramatically affects your holiday experience. The four main areas tourists choose — Kaleiçi, Konyaaltı, Lara Beach, and Belek — each offer something completely different.

Kaleiçi (Old Town) — Best for First-Timers and Culture Lovers

Kaleiçi is Antalya’s atmospheric Old Town and, for most first-time visitors, the nicest part of the city in terms of character and beauty. Ancient Roman walls run along its edges, narrow cobblestone streets wind between restored Ottoman mansions, and the old Roman harbour at the bottom is picture-postcard perfect at every hour of the day.

Staying here puts you within walking distance of Hadrian’s Gate, the Yivli Minaret, the Archaeology Museum, and the city’s main restaurants and bars. Bus connections to both [Konyaaltı Beach](INTERNAL LINK: /konyaalti-beach) (10–15 minutes by tram) and [Lara Beach](INTERNAL LINK: /lara-beach) (30–40 minutes by bus) make it a practical base too.

Best for: First-timers, history lovers, couples, solo travellers. Drawback: No beach on your doorstep — you’ll need to travel to swim.

Konyaaltı Beach — Best for Convenience and Budget

Konyaaltı Beach is on the western side of the city, just a short tram ride from Kaleiçi. The beach stretches 13 km with a mix of fine pebbles and sand, Blue Flag water quality, and a long promenade lined with cafés, restaurants, and bars. At the far western end sits the Tünektepe Cable Car base station.

Prices in Konyaaltı tend to be more reasonable than in Kaleiçi or Lara, with a good range of mid-range hotels and apartments. The mountain backdrop behind the beach is stunning, especially at sunset.

Best for: Beach lovers, those wanting city centre access, budget travellers. Drawback: Pebble beach — water shoes are strongly recommended.

Lara Beach — Best for Luxury and All-Inclusive Resorts

Lara Beach is Antalya’s golden sand strip, home to the famous mega-resort hotels. The water is warm and calm, it’s a Blue Flag beach, and the scale of some hotels here — think Titanic, Topkapi Palace, and Concorde de Luxe — is extraordinary. If you want an all-inclusive holiday where everything is on-site and the beach is sandy, Lara is the answer.

It’s located about 12–16 km east of the Old Town, which means getting into the city centre takes 30–40 minutes by bus. Many guests barely leave their resort, which is fine if that’s the holiday you’re after.

Best for: Families, couples seeking luxury, all-inclusive holidaymakers. Drawback: Far from city sights; transport into Antalya takes time.

Belek — Best for Golf and High-End Packages

Belek, about 30–35 km east of central Antalya, is Turkey’s golf capital with championship courses and 5-star resorts. Also home to the [Land of Legends Theme Park— excellent for families. Less suitable if you want to explore the city centre.

The Nicest Part Overall?

For a balanced holiday combining history, beaches, food, and city life, Kaleiçi edges it as the most characterful base. For a pure beach holiday with comfort, Lara Beach wins. For value and convenience, Konyaaltı is hard to beat.
